Who I Am
The basics
I am a clinical psychologist and have been in private practice in Atlanta since 1984. My experience includes private clinical practice, teaching, and giving talks as well as workshops. I have taught communication skills for the last 24 years. My private practice is varied, including working with adult depression, counseling people dealing with major life losses such as divorce, death, disease and infertility. I also work with people who would like more satisfaction in their lives in general. I see people in individual therapy, run therapy groups, and work with couples.
I teach regularly in Emory University's Department of Rehabilitative Medicine where my job is to train the doctoral candidates in physical therapy to communicate in a sensitive and caring way with their patients. I also for 23 years have taught Speaking Up for Yourself Assertively at Emory's Evening at Emory program.

My thoughts and philosophy about therapy:
Your therapy appointment is confidential and private. It's very important for you to feel comfortable and secure in your relationship with your therapist. Providing that for you is my goal in working with you.
Thinking about going into psychotherapy is a big step. Essential to that step feeling right to you is to find a therapist with whom you feel a good connection. Sometimes people meet with several therapists in the course of finding the right fit.
The therapy process can bring energy and new focus to your life. We work together to come up with ways to think about and act in your life to bring this about for you.
If you and I are not a good fit, I will work with you to help you find the right therapist for you.
